How To Change Read More Text In Divi Blog

Matthew

I'm trying to get a translation in for the "read more" text generated by the Divi Blog Module.

I'm looking in the WPML documentation at https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/divi-builder/

An example of the page I'm trying to do this is ...
hidden link
... where you can see every post summary has an automated "read more" link

I want to output a translation of that text, when a different language has been chosen.

Matthew

In truth, in the end, if it's feasible - I want to modify the text of the original "read more" link but Elegant Themes suggest this is done by sticking some javascript in the <head> section of each page, so I've hesitated to start any of that, before I know how I can get a multi-lingual option - hoping not to complicate things in the first instance.

Hello @matthewn-10,

Thank you for contacting WPML support. I will be happy to help you with this.

1. I have tested the Divi blog function on a sandbox and it works properly with different languages without any special coding.

This is what I did:

1. Create a post in the original language using Divi text field.
2.Translate that post in second language with the Advanced Translation Editor by going to Posts and clicking the + symbol next to the post name, editing translation and saving.
3. Create a main blog page and add the Divi blog module.
4.Translate that page in the second language Advanced Translation Editor by going to Posts and clicking the + symbol next to the post name, editing translation and saving.
5. Now the main blog page with language 1 displays the excerpts of the blog posts in language 1, and has the "read more" link in language 1, and the main blog page in language 2 displays the excerpts of the blog posts in language 2 and has the "read more" link in language 2.

I was also able to change the text output for "read more" in language 2 by doing the following:

1. Go to WPML->String Translation.
2. Search for the string containing "read more".
3. It didn't appear immediately so I went down to the bottom of the String Translation page to "Auto register strings for translation" and checked the box "look for strings while pages are rendered", then clicked "Edit".
4. Visit the main blog page.
5. Go back to WPML->String Translation and search again for the string containing "read more". This time it appeared with the domain et_builder.
6. I clicked the plus sign next to the string and entered whatever text I wanted it to display.
7. The main blog page in Language 2 displayed my personalized translation.

2. I also see in the debug information that your WP Memory Limit is 40M. WPML requires a memory limit of at least 128M to function correctly. You can read more details about this here:
https://wpml.org/faq/checklist-before-opening-a-ticket-in-wpml-support/#does-your-wordpress-installation-afford-you-all-the-resources-needed

You can add the following code in your wp-config.php file, right after the database information lines of code:

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT','128M');

Could you try increasing the memory limit and re-saving the translations (of both the blog posts themselves and the page with the Divi blog module), and let me know if that solves the problem?

Let me know if this answers your question. If not, could you please be more specific about what you are trying to do and what you are seeing?

Kinds regards,
Evan

Hello,

Please follow the SUGGESTION my Colleague Evan left for you and let us know how it goes.

Matthew

Thanks very much for the replies. I'm embarrassed to say I have struggled to establish how I could reply to you, after a few days had passed.

Now I appear to have worked that out(!) I am endeavouring to follow the suggestions that Evan laid out at 3:47 on Feb 20th.

Assuming I can get myself back into the option to reply to this thread again, I will definitely let you know how it works out.
